Overledger now supports Polkadot Westend TestNet (Relay Chain only) through new standardised APIs.

Polkadot (DOT) is a blockchain network that connects to multiple Substrate-based blockchains; it also handles their security and transactions and provides bridges to other networks like Ethereum and Bitcoin.

Martin Hargreaves, Quant’s Chief Product Officer, says, “with our latest Polkadot release, we are building deeper interconnectivity into Overledger. Our public Software as a Service (SaaS) already connects to chains like Ethereum, Bitcoin, XRP Ledger and Polygon. Additionally, we also have connectors to permissioned blockchains like Hyperledger Fabric and Corda. Quant’s aim is to create a highly secure, enterprise-grade gateway and token-issuance platform that works seamlessly with the most commonly used blockchains.”

Overledger API functions can be performed on Polkadot Westend TestNet, including creating a DOT transaction, searching a transaction or a block and more. Note: Overledger’s APIs for Polkadot do not support smart contract functionality as this is not supported by the underlying relay chain.

Martin adds, “essentially, with the new Polkadot release, we can now connect to blockchains whose purpose is to connect to other blockchains. Effectively, Overledger is a higher-level interoperability layer.”

Support for Polkadot MainNet (Relay Chain only) will be available in the next release.
