To mark International Women’s Day – a day dedicated to honoring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout history and across the globe – we spoke with some of the women of Quant about what this year’s theme means to them and why the day is so important.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. Inclusion means embracing all people irrespective of race, gender, disability or other need. It’s about giving equal access and opportunities, calling out discrimination and drawing attention to bias. A focus on workplace inclusion means ensuring people feel valued and accepted in their team and wider organisation.

Karen Nyarirangwe, Product Owner

What does ‘inspire inclusion’ mean to you?
This year’s theme is about empowerment. No one person is the same and to support inclusion we need to strive for equality.

Shereen George, Backend Developer

How can we ‘inspire inclusion’?
By fostering an environment where diversity is celebrated, and every woman’s voice matters – it’s about actively working towards a future where women are recognised, listened to and appreciated.

Mahsa Bayat, Technical Lead

What could encourage more women to consider a career in technology?
Early exposure is crucial, through educational programmes, workshops and mentorship opportunities. This not only helps break down stereotypes but also builds confidence in their abilities. Equally, it’s important to see other women who have achieved success in the field that can motivate others to pursue similar paths. This can help to promote inclusivity and equality in the tech industry.

Rachel Baugh, Content Lead

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
To me, it’s both a celebration of the progress that has been made in achieving gender equality and a reminder of the work that is yet to be done.

Scarlet Hughes, Product Owner

What does this year’s theme mean to you?
Inclusion means making each person feel seen. It requires different levels of support and effort to ensure everyone is on the same playing field – no matter their gender, ethnicity, background or experiences.

Roma Rezavandi, Backend Developer

What makes you feel inspired at Quant?
The empowering environment at Quant that encourages constant learning and collaboration means that my passion for technology is not just valued, but it directly impacts the work that we do.
